I'm excited to announce my second coloring book from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology Publishing Group, "Backyard Birds and Blossoms".  Like "America's Favorite Birds", this is full of birds from all across the U.S., though this book focuses on plant and flower species relevant to each bird, as well as tips on how to improve your own yard to be attractive to birds.  Both books focus on not only coloring fun, but education!  And this book has a 30-inch coloring spread and QR codes so you can find out more information about each bird and hear its call.

Like with the first book, I'm doing a book giveaway!  I only have this on Facebook because keeping track of comments on FA, dA, and Facebook would be overwhelming, so if you're on Facebook, all you need to do is comment at the link below with your favorite bird:

www.facebook.com/falconmoonstu…

It can be any bird, it doesn't have to be native to the U.S.!  After you comment, I will reply to you with a number.  On April 12th, I will use a Random Number Generator to pick three winners, and if you win, I will sign and draw a sketch of your bird in your book!

Some personal news - I may be moving to Colorado sometime this year. With the loss of my father, I've been considering finally moving somewhere else, as I primarily stayed here as a caretaker.  I'll be living with two very close friends and will finally be able to pursue some life goals I've wanted that weren't possible in Connecticut.

I'm also doing fewer conventions this year, not due to the possible move, but mainly because I got super burned out last year (Eurofurence in Germany one week and then DragonCon a week and a half later!), but also because I want to spend more time this year doing more personal art.  And I've already been posting quite a bit of it.  Doing work preparing for conventions is nice, but it's a lot of the same stuff.  That said, I will be doing a few conventions this year, mainly my main ones - Anthrocon and DragonCon, and probably Furpocalypse and a new Connecticut conventions called Tiny Paws.  I might also do Art in the Park (an art fair in my town), and I've been sending art to a few shows around the country, so I'm still active :)

As mentioned before, I'm currently responsible for all the household expenses (including, temporarily, a sizable mortgage), so I'm offering a free domestic shipping coupon code in my Etsy shop. If you use coupon code FREESHIP17 at checkout at www.etsy.com/shop/windfalcon it will remove shipping for your entire order (within the U.S.). Neat!  That includes everything from very heavy items such as original, framed paintings, to very light leather feathers.  If you want to take advantage of ordering something custom that's not listed in my shop and getting free shipping, I'll be happy to put a listing up for you.  This code will be valid until 3/31. The pieces down below are currently available in my shop, as well as many prints, custom listings, and leather jewelry:

In the Sun by windfalcon Peek by windfalcon  Before the Chase by windfalcon Three Red-Tails by windfalcon Night Magic by windfalcon
I'm going to be offering some toned paper commissions, with the same detail as Three Red-Tails. I was debating mentioning why I'm asking for commissions, but I figure there's no harm in being honest. With the loss of my father, I've also taken on many more bills, including all utilities and the mortgage. Until I can refinance the house, I need to come up with a rather high amount each month to be able to stay in the house, so I'll be taking on more commissions until that happens. It sucks but that's the reality of it.

These toned paper commissions are at a discounted rate of $80 each. They are on 9X12 toned paper and shipping is $3 in the U.S. or $15 overseas ($12 to Canada). As always, I also have custom leather jewelry commissions on my Etsy shop, as well as lots of leather feathers and prints in stock - www.etsy.com/shop/windfalcon

I also have some originals available. Some are in my Etsy shop, others I don't have listed. If you're interested in an unlisted original, or a more detailed commission, send me a note. Depending on the complexity/subject matter I may be able to work on it.
I suppose my journal is overdue for an update. 2016 started off great and ended...pretty badly. My father passed away last week and I've sort of just been...dealing with things. Having a lot of work to do has been good and bad - bad because while my father was sick in the hospital (for most of October and November), I couldn't really take time off from illustration.  And it was good because having myself ears-deep in art was a good way to distract myself.

The work I'd been doing is publication work so that's why my gallery has been quiet for a while. Now that it's over, I'll be working on some other projects, including owed commissions.

I'll be a bit quiet, maybe slow to respond. At risk of sounding tactless, I am offering a coupon code on my Etsy shop (tragedy strikes but bills still need to be paid, now more than ever). Use HOLIDAY16 at checkout - www.etsy.com/shop/windfalcon
I'm having a summer Etsy sale! This isn't anything dire - I'm just trying to raise some last-minute extra spending money before I head to Germany (did you know the German word for a cash tip is "Trinkgeld" which literally translates to "drink money"? A+ language), so I put up a coupon code. Use SUMMER2016 at checkout at my Etsy shop - www.etsy.com/shop/windfalcon and you'll be greeted with a sweet 15% off discount until 8/4. You get cool art stuff, I get beer money, everybody wins.

Now there's one big thing - while you can use the coupon code for anything in my shop, please be aware that since I will be out of the country for most of August, any custom, made-to-order items will not be made or ship until after September 10th. Prints and already-made leather jewelry will still ship immediately, but anything that says CUSTOM in the title will be delayed. Please don't order unless you're ok with this!

I have a ton of leather necklaces and earrings that I didn't sell at Fur the 'More, since I made way more than I thought I did (which is usually the opposite of what happens).  I guess I kind of got in a trance while working and before I knew it, I had 50 leather feathers and 20 pairs of earrings. Oops!

So I threw them all up on Etsy and because I usually do something like this every spring, I have a coupon code, which is SPRINGFEVER, which you can use at checkout for 15% off! Woo!  You can find all the newly-uploaded leather feathers and earrings here -  www.etsy.com/shop/windfalcon

Here's a few of the feathers I just put up:

And of course you can use the coupon for prints and originals, and custom stuff, too. Anything that's in my shop is 15% off until 5/15. :)

EDIT: Voting is over! You can see the birds chosen at the link below!

I've been working on a huge project for the past month, and today I can finally make an official announcement!

The Cornell Lab of Ornithology asked me to illustrate a coloring book, with 40 of America's favorite birds.  They've already chosen 15 'top' birds, but in order to make this a true "America's favorite birds' book, they've set up a voting page for the public to help pick which birds will be in the coloring book:

academy.allaboutbirds.org/amer…

If you don't see your favorite bird, take a look at the list at the very bottom of the page, which contains those 15 chosen birds that automatically will be included.  Also, you can write in a species that's not listed for voting if you sign up for the Cornell Lab newsletter (there's a button at the bottom of the page to sign up).  Plus, you will be entered to win one of 50 free coloring books, AND get a free Great Horned Owl coloring page (which is an example of the lineart that will be inside the book).

I'll post more information throughout the year with more information on the book, including when and where you can get it!  It will likely be available in bookstores nationwide.  Also, this is going to be a very high-quality coloring book, so not only will it be full of gorgeous birds with plants to color, but you'll be able to color these with a wide variety of wet and dry media.

Hey, I promise this will be the last 'advertising journal' for a while, but I wanted to give people a heads-up for holiday orders.

I just posted a bunch of prints and leather feathers in my Etsy shop - www.etsy.com/shop/windfalcon You can get 10% off your entire order by using coupon code HOLIDAY2015 at checkout.

And to alleviate stress for me, and heartache from items that don't arrive in time, please note the following deadlines for 12/25 delivery:

Domestic U.S. Orders:
For CUSTOM leather pieces (leather feathers, wing necklaces, earrings, bracelets): 12/14 Purchasing a custom listing after this date means your item MAY NOT arrive in time for Christmas (it might, but it's not guaranteed).
For NON-CUSTOM items (prints, already-made leather jewelry): 12/21

International Orders:
For CUSTOM orders - they will arrive (probably) after Christmas due to shipping times.
For NON-CUSTOM items (prints, already-made leather jewelry): they should arrive in time if you order by 12/11. No guarantees since I have no control over each country's individual customs process.

I also have signed copies of "Winged Fantasy" for $25 plus shipping. For a custom ink sketch inside, it's an extra $10. If interested, please let me know.

I'm trying to make things easier for myself and work on holiday orders earlier than later. It always seems that every year, I get a ton of last-minute requests, and have to rush two weeks before Christmas to get custom work out D: So I'm placing a self-imposed limit myself, that I will NOT accept orders that will carry my workload into the week before Christmas.

That means, if you want a custom piece (mask, wing necklace, leather feather jewelry, etc), please contact me sooner than later. I'm already maybe about 50% at capacity, and I really would rather get my work done early, so I can enjoy the holidays in peace :3

Please note - you can order premade things like prints and leather things that aren't custom, up until a few days before the holidays.  That's fine.  I'm just asking that if you're planning on ordering something custom, that you don't wait until the week before Christmas :D

Here's my Etsy shop with both custom orders and premade items - www.etsy.com/shop/windfalcon

ALSO - if you would like a SIGNED copy of by book, Winged Fantasy, please let me know! They are $25 plus shipping ($5 in the U.S., contact me for international shipping rates), or $35 if you'd like an ink sketch.  They make great gifts :3

After being poked and pestered (not really, but I'm stubborn) by friends and other artists, I'm considering creating a Patreon. Trouble is, I have no idea what would appeal to patrons! Obviously sketches that I don't post elsewhere, but I also had the idea of starting to write my Bronze Feather story (the headworld which a lot of my art is based off of), and offering chapters or excerpts of that at certain pledge tiers.

SO! My question is - what would interest you as content offered in a Patreon?

- Prints?
- Story bits?
- Leather jewelry/masks?
- Works in progress?
- Seeing the stupid sketches/comics that sleep deep in my sketchbook?
- ???

Since I'm primarily a traditional artist, I don't really have digital goodies that I can offer, like a lot of the other art Patreons. For the higher tiers, I can offer physical things (prints, leather feathers, maybe even an original painting), and of course, bits of writing for those interested. Please leave me your ideas of what you'd like to see, even if you aren't interested in being a patron - I just want your ideas :D

And as a side note, I was a big dumb dummy and messed up two masks by putting them in my oven too wet and too flat, so I ended up with oven rack bars kind of burning the leather - i.imgur.com/iT1s5KG.jpg I went and shaped them anyway, and I'm offering them as blanks for anyone who wants to paint them! They are $40 each or both for $75 plus $5 shipping in the U.S. They come ready to paint with any type of acrylic, and I'll include your choice of ribbon or leather lace for wearing. If interested, let me know.

First off, thank you all for the birthday wishes!  Ironically, I was unable to read them until a few days after my birthday, since my modem died and I had to wait a few days for the replacement to arrive.  I had a great day swimming with friends and having cake and ice cream and burgers :D

As always, I will be at DragonCon this year, which is Labor Day weekend in Atlanta.  I'll have a bazaar table, and original paintings and masks in the art show.  I'll also be at Illuxcon in Allentown, PA and Furpocalypse in Cromwell, CT.  Next year, I *might* be going to a convention in Europe, but I have to find out when it's being held, to make sure it doesn't interfere with DragonCon.

Now...tattoo designs.  I've been sitting on quite a few notes without responding and I apologize for those of you waiting for a reply.  All of these notes had to do with inquiries for tattoo commissions.  While I appreciate so many of you wanting a custom piece of my work inked on your body, I am currently not accepting tattoo commissions, and don't know when - or if - I'll accept them in the future.  The main reason for this is since tattoo designs have different requirements than regular drawings and paintings (particularly things like thicker lines, limited details for smaller designs etc), I don't feel comfortable designing them.  I've designed a few in the past and honestly, I'd like to focus my work on other things.  There are plenty of wonderful tattoo design artists out there, and I encourage anyone who wants a piece from me to look around for other artists :)
Apparently with spring coming so late this year, I got bit harder than usual by the Spring Cleaning bug, and have been clearing out my studio of old art supplies and giving things away just to get it the heck out of here.  I have a ton - a ton - of old art that I know will just continue to take up space if I don't get rid of it.  I'd much rather sell these pieces and have someone else enjoy them than to keep them in storage.

Some of these pieces are old, some of them are actually not so old!  So take a look and see if there is anything you've had your heart set on - it might finally be severely discounted because I want it out of my house so I can have room to make and store new art :D

If you see one you want, comment or note me. I will mark these as SOLD as they sell, so if it doesn't say 'SOLD' it's probably still available.

Shipping depends on the size of the piece.  Shipping in the U.S. will range from $2 up, depending on how big the piece is. International shipping is higher.

You can pay with Paypal or a credit card through Paypal, or if you absolutely hate Paypal, I can put an Etsy listing up for you.

I have a bad habit of keeping the same, old journal entry up for months at a time D:  So here's a new one!  I was doing some spring cleaning and discovered I have more leather feathers than I realized, plus leather earring, so I threw them up on Etsy along with a 10% of coupon!  Go to www.etsy.com/shop/windfalcon and use coupon code SPRINGSALE2015 at checkout to get the discount :D The coupon will be good until 4/10.

And if you're in the DC area, I will be Guest of Honor at Fur the 'More this year :3 I'll be doing two panels, one being Matting and Mounting Art for Conventions, and the other being Birds 101: How do they Work (obviously working titles).  There's been a lot of interest in learning how to do simple mat cutting, a well as inexpensive mounting and display of work for art shows.  Too often I've seen beautiful pieces just...stuck up with a bulldog clip without even a backing board and there are super cheap ways to mount pieces!  So I'll be doing a panel on that.  And the bird panel will mostly be focusing on anatomy, as well as bird behavior.

HOLIDAY ORDERS

This journal is late, but better late than never! I get pretty frequent requests around this time of year for masks and leather jewelry, so I figured I'd post ordering info here for anyone who is interested.  Also I am working on this year's holiday card featuring Solstice the gryphon, so as always, I will have that available as greeting cards if anyone wants to send them out, either in card form or email.

For custom orders, there is still time to order IF you live in the U.S.  For international order, unfortunately due to shipping time, any custom orders likely will not arrive by 12/25 (Canada, maybe).  You can request custom orders either here via DA note, or order directly through my Etsy shop (preferred, as it keeps all my orders in one place!). Etsy custom order links are below.

Leather Masks: I'm almost to capacity for mask commissions, but send me a note if you're interested.

Leather Wing Necklaces: I still have a few commission spots available for leather bird and dragon wing necklaces.  You can order them here:
Bird Wings: www.etsy.com/listing/126556062…
Dragon Wings: www.etsy.com/listing/196662156…

Leather Feather Necklaces, Bracelets Earrings: I can make these pretty fast, so I'll be taking orders for these right up until probably a week before Christmas.
Single Feather Necklaces: 3-inch or 6-inch
Bracelets: www.etsy.com/listing/117496229…
Earrings: www.etsy.com/listing/177309012…

For prints, I have a bunch in my shop and can ship them out within a few days.
For my book, Winged Fantasy, you can order them online from Amazon, or from North Light Books. You can also find them in Barnes and Noble, and many art and craft stores!  If you want a signed copy, let me know!
__________

HOLIDAY BOOK RAFFLE

Also as a way to say thank you for all the support from everyone for my very first book, I will be doing not one, not two, but THREE book raffles for a free copy of "Winged Fantasy" - one on DeviantART, one on FurAffinity, and one on Facebook. Here are the rules:

1. Comment here in this journal, saying something like, "I'd like to enter, please!" or whatever else, just make sure you let me know you'd like to participate.
2. I will reply with a number.
3. On December 22nd I will use www.random.org to draw a number for each of the three raffles!  If I pull your number, you win a signed copy of my book!
4. This raffle is open for EVERYONE!  For all countries. I will pay for shipping, even for international winners.
5. Please enter only once. If you watch me on both dA and FA, for example, please comment on only one journal.  I want to keep this fun for everyone, so please stay honest :)  If I see you've entered on more than one gallery, you'll still only get ONE number.
6. Not a rule, but if you are excited about my book and the raffle, please let people know! I'd love for more people to know about my book, so even having people let their friends know about the book is super cool for me :D

Good luck!

I suppose I've been quiet lately, because I've been so busy! Summer is always my busy season, and with three conventions complete, I'm just wrapping up the Halloween mask rush and moving onto my last convention of the year, Furpocalypse (formerly known as FurFright). After attending Illuxcon last month, I'm itching to work with oils. The trick is finding the time to work on personal art! Commissions are wonderful, but I need to find time to work on stuff for myself. I'm starting to get antsy.

So, keep an eye out for more paintings, including (as always) my yearly holiday card featuring Solstice the gryphon! She'll likely be trying her paw at some holiday tradition and either succeeding or failing adorably.

It's convention rush season, which means I'll likely be posting lots of art!  Sorry I've been so quiet lately! Here's what's been going on -

Jewelry

I have quite a few leather jewelry pieces left from Anthrocon which I've posted on Etsy.  I've been so busy with commissions that I haven't had much time to stock my shop, so this is an unusual case where my shop is quite full!  I have a few leather feather pendants (some of which already sold by the time of this journal), a few pairs of earrings, a couple bracelets, a wing necklace, and some leather masks.  And as always there's custom feather and wing necklaces, and prints, too! (and an original painting), some of it discounted.  I'm trying to raise money for airfare to DragonCon before airfares get too crazy :D www.etsy.com/shop/windfalcon

Books
I was super excited to be SOLD OUT of books at Anthrocon by Saturday!  Thank you everyone for such a positive reaction to my book, and for all your kind words.  :)  I was so happy to hear your feedback.  To those of you who wanted a copy but I had already run out, I have more copies on hand now, so if you want to buy it directly from me, it's $25 plus $5 shipping in the U.S. (international shipping is more), or you can order it off Amazon or find it in your local Barnes and Noble, Michaels, or other art and craft stores.  Let me know what you think!

Conventions
As always, I will be at Dragon Con this year, in the Artist's Bazaar as well as the art show.  If you're going to be there, stop on by!  The Art Show is located in the lowest floor of the Hyatt.  It can sometimes be hard to find!  I'll have a bunch of originals in the art show, and at my table I'll have books, prints, leather jewelry, and maybe some arm guards.  Someone made the suggestion to make a chicken arm guard and I might have to do this...

A couple weeks after that I will be at Illuxcon, also participating in the Friday/Saturday Night showcase.  I will also be at Furpocalypse, as it's my local con and I live literally 25 minutes away!

I just got back from a (much needed) vacation in Montana, and arrived home to find my first copies of Winged Fantasy here waiting for me!  And they're beautiful!

144 pages of watercolor instruction, covering dragons, phoenixes, pegasi, gryphons, and more fantastical winged creatures.  And of course, as highly requested, an entire chapter on how to draw wings!  I currently have a bunch on hand to ship out, though within the month this book will also be available for sales online (Amazon, etc.) and in bookstores such as Barnes and Noble, and art and craft stores such as Michaels and AC Moore, among others.  If you're curious, you can also view more pages at the Amazon listing!

If you'd like an autographed copy straight from the author/artist, I am offering them here! Each copy is $25, plus $5 shipping in the U.S.  Because I'm using a flat-rate Priority envelope, you can order up to two books for a flat $5 shipping!  Please note that shipping overseas is a bit pricier and depends on location.  I'm also offering a small pen sketch option for an additional $10.  There is no extra charge for signing it, of course :)  If interested in a copy and would like to pay by Paypal, please send the total ($30 in the U.S.) to mysticfalcon13(at)hotmail.com.  For international orders, please leave a comment or send me a note.

If you will be at Anthrocon, DragonCon, IlluxCon or Furpocalypse, I will also have copies for sale!
