Artist's Comments
This is the fourth in a series of ten paintings for my thesis, An Illustrative Exploration of Birds of Prey in History and Culture. Here, I look at the saker falcon and how it is used in Middle Eastern falconry.
The saker is valued for its stamina and resilience to the scorching desert heat. In this paintling, I wanted to show the detail of the hoods as well as the vast, striking contrast of the orange/yellow landscape with the deep blue of the desert sky.
