Sky Painter by windfalcon Sky Painter by windfalcon
So skilled are the graceful wings of falcons, it's as if they could paint the sky with each feathered tip.

This painting was partially inspired by the quote of a falconer whose blog I read -

"Goshawks are water. Falcons are air and hot stone. Goshawks are water and wood." -- Helen Macdonald

This, obviously, would be the 'air and hot stone.' The next painting, predictably, will be the goshawk.

Watercolor on hot-press Arches, 5X9 inches

Curious... The slightly folded right wing and the fully extended left wing; is the falcon relying on lift asymmetry to actuate a right roll by shifting its aerodynamic center of lift left of its center of gravity?

Wow... incredible job! I love the story behind this, and the falconer's quote as inspiration. It's a beautiful thing to see such a creature of grace paint the heavens with her wingtips.
Keep it up! :)

I'm excited to start painting it :D Goshawks are such gorgeous birds - and challenging, too, especially with all their markings.

The way you painted the rocks is beautiful! Not to mention the hawk him(or her?)self is gorgeous.

You did a lot of justice to the quote, especially the "painting" with the wings!

Very nice, and the elemental influences are a nice touch. Kinda makes me wonder if Goshawks are Water and Falcons Air, which are corresponding to Fire and Earth?

Wow this is really sublime, hon. I had to look twice to make sure the piece was as small as you said it was! So much detail and such a sweeping feel.

I really like how the ground and the sky seem to be distorted by the pull of the falcon's movement. It has a raw elemental power to it. I can tell you really enjoyed painting this one:)

Stunning work. I like how the lines of the sky and cliffs seem to be in motion with the falcon.

Thank you! Indeed, I aimed to make the sky and cliffs appear as if 'painted' by the wings.
