This mask is a commission for ~kaitou-lili who wanted a sea fae mask for Halloween. She has a gorgeous skirt and I tried to create a mask to compliment the colors in the clothing as well.
This is the first mask where I've used fabric as part of the design. There are real freshwater pearls, and I hope I don't sound vain saying this, but I just love the little barnacles. They were almost an afterthought, but once I stuck them on there, I just fell in love. The barnacles, as well as the shell, are cut from lighter 5 oz leather (the mask itself is 8 oz).
The whole mask is painted with acrylics, and most of it is actually iridescent. I thought if I wanted to go with fish scales, then iridescent pigments would work best.
Oh! And many thanks to ~arna for the rice pearls! They were a perfect mix with the round pearls and I think they added some great shape to the strands!
