Ruffian in Autumn by windfalcon Ruffian in Autumn by windfalcon
A commission for =KreepingSpawn of a very cool character called Ruffian. I just love painting hooves :D And splashy, crazy early-autumn trees, too.

Watercolor on cold-press paper, 8X10 inches

I am so useless lately. :) This was waiting for me when I returned from my trip to NYC, and I have been meaning to note you about it for a whole WEEK! :ohnoes:

'tis even more handsome in person. ;) I really like what you did with the background, a forest environ is so fitting for him. And I very much enjoy the warm autumn colors in the background as they contrast to the 'cool' figure. You did a wonderful job with his markings, and the wings, as usual, are magnificent. :D

Thank you, thank you!! :glomp:

That is the main reason I commissioned her for this character.

How long does it take you to draw a wing? >.>

Not very long. I'm very familiar with avian anatomy, but often I have to study angles a bit if it's an unusual angle.

your work is incredible! So often watercolours can appear faded and washed out but this is so bright and dynamic! I am so jealous!

Woaah crazy interesting mix for a grphyon, or would we even still call this a gryphon? Whatever it is, very cool coloration and mix!

I've sort of settled on calling him a chimaera, but he's a demon spirit/shapeshifter, so... nothing is certain. ;p

I'm not sure what he technically is! I wouldn't say a gryphon since there's no avian element except for the wings.

I think it's a peryton ... certainly the AD&D monster by that name looks very similar to this creature!

So today he might look like a peryton, but tomorrow he might be a grilled cheese sandwich ... :)

I do not know the character or this kind of monster-OCs (is there a word for it?), but I really love your art. It makes them look REAL. Well, maybe I should avoid a meeting with this one, but I would love to walk through this autumn forest ... the colours are beautiful. And I would love it, too, to touch the fur and the feathers ... it looks so smooth.

Thanks! Though I can't take credit for the character design, as it belongs to =KreepingSpawn :3 I simply painted my interpretation of Ruffian.

That's true, but the way of drawing feathers an fur belongs completely to you. And these textures are the most amazing feautre of this picture.
