It was only a matter of time before I made a pair of red-tailed hawk wings (not sure why it took me so long). If you've ever seen a red-tail up close, you'll know that they have these beautiful patterns on their wings among the dark, barred feathers of these red, brown and cream feathers. I love them so, but like with everything from nature, I can never quite capture the effect right. That's okay - nature will always be a better artist than me and I'm totally okay with that.
Each wing is about 3.5 inches at its widest, and the dangling tail feather is 2 inches. There are a bunch of beads, including wood, metal, and a tiger's eye right in the middle. Each wing is carved from 7-oz and 4-oz leather (there's a 4-oz piece layered on top), and painted with acrylics. The chain is gunmetal, and it has a lobster clasp. Like all my wing pendants, this sits high on the chest. With chain and pendant, the total length is about 20 inches around.
