Description

More watercolor experimentation. After reading a bit on Edgar Degas, I was inspired by the way his compositions were successful in their asymmetry and the way he allowed parts of the subject to be cut off by the canvas. This is nothing like any of Degas' work, nor is it really in the style of his compositions, but I felt it was necessary to mention that his work was what planted the seed for trying a different type of composition than I usually do.

I also wanted to really try and get the texture of a fluffy owl and feathers using watercolor. I also used a bit of colored pencil, and I think it adds to the effect. Lastly, it is an exercise in contrast. It's still very difficult for me to stretch my contrast boundaries!
