A commission for =Bleuborzoi of an Alaskan scene with a red-tailed hawk and a gyrfalcon. At first I wasn't sure where I should categorize this, since it's sort of fantasy, but sort of not.

I'm really happy with how this came out. I'm definitely going to be doing more ink and watercolor since it causes me to push my value range wider than my pure-watercolor pieces. I had a lot of fun with the clouds!

Holbein ink and watercolor with a little bit of white gouache on Arches cold-press, 9X12 inches

GORGEOUS! Very Audobon-esque but even nicer :D.
Random note: Have you ever heard of Walton Ford? If not, you should look him up--he's one of my favorite modern artists. He does a lot of really awesome watercolors of animals with political messages <3 including some birds.

Anyway, back to the piece...this is really great. I adore how you did each feather and the gyrfalcon's wing markings! Utterly beautiful! And the background scene is perfectly fitting to the subjects. Overall, amazing <333. :+fav:

Gorgeous colors. :) I really love both redtail hawks and gyrfalcons. I've never seen them in any artwork together, but they make one a hell of a beautiful match. ^^
